Botanical Dye Workshop

Join artist Lyndsey McDougall and forage plants, leaves, and berries to make your own botanical fabric dyes.

This August, The Playhouse’s Artitude: Climate, Culture & Circularity project invites you to join artist Lyndsey McDougall at The Playtrail in Derry~Londonderry, as she guides you through the many possibilities of dyeing fabric with natural materials.

In this workshop, you will learn how to forage sustainably for local plants and the basics of dyeing with natural pigments, including how to extract colour from plant materials and how to affix those colours to fibre.

The aim of the workshop is to provide you with the confidence and information to experiment with natural dyes in your own textile projects. You will go home with a small selection of fabric samples and dye recipes.

Important Information:

• Snacks and refreshments will be provided but please consider bringing a light lunch or some food with you.
• The Playtrail has a large carpark and is accessible by public transport. The venue is accessible with a level entrance and accessible toilet.
• Spaces are very limited so please book early!
• This is a FREE workshop so we expect demand to be high. Please only register if you can commit to attending.
