Ethical Weigh Co-op otherwise known as Ethical Weigh Mutual Benefit Society is a members based ‘not-for- profit’ formed in 2023 by local patrons of a shop of the same name Ethical Weigh Ltd in 2019.
The enterprise consists of a Refill-style Shop, a Vegan Café and a Community Wellness Studio all based on the Benbow Industrial Estate in Eglinton village.
The aim of the shop is to encourage plastic free shopping, promote healthy eating, offer non toxic cosmetics and cleaning products plus showcase Zero waste and circular economy household items. We stock well-known health food brands, organic and fairtrade foods, ethical coffee and chocolate, plus in-season locally grown fruit and vegetables when possible. We aim to favour less food miles, lowering our carbon footprint and sourcing products that use a circular or closed loop system of delivery to reduce waste.
The Refill Shop sells dried goods, wholefoods, herbs and spices, non-toxic cleaning products and personal care products all in refill form. Fresh fruit and vegetables are organic or locally sourced or both. Customers are encouraged to bring their own containers, re-using, repurposing or avoiding single-use plastic whilst minimising waste.
Healthy, nutritious but mostly just delicious, our Plant-based Cafe is open for lunch daily Tues – Sat 12 – 3:30pm. The cafe stays open for hot drinks and vegan treats until 4:30pm. Menu details can be found on the Ethical Weigh Co-op website.
A large studio space, accommodating 20 – 25 participants is available to hire for community wellness workshops and events. Co-op members are also encouraged to use the space for the benefit of the community. A diary of whats-on in the studio can be found on the Ethical Weigh Co-op facebook page.
