IMPORTANT UPDATE: Three Day Extension – deadline for bids is now midnight Monday 17th March.

As a member of ZWNW, you are already a Climate Activist. Fair play. For many people, it is just too overwhelming to begin to think about taking action for change.

ZWNW are exploring ways to involve our friends, family and community in the journey of learning, connecting and building ways of working together to create new possibilities which care for people and our planet.

To support members’ ideas and model democratic decision-making, ZWNW is facilitating a Participatory Budget (PB) to distribute the £6,000 given to us in recognition of our contribution as grassroots activists in the Artitude: Climate, Culture & Circularity National Lottery Climate Action Fund partnership project.

Ideas

Any individual member or group of members in ZWNW can submit an idea – except the folks in the PB Design team. There is no limit to the number of ideas that can be submitted. Some ideas will only need a small amount of funding, some will need more. The only conditions are that the proposers are able to take the lead on carrying out their ideas, that they can be completed by Mon 30th, Sept 2025, that the ideas are safe, viable and legal, and that bidders commit to attending the celebratory event in Oct 2025.

The Process

The Normalising Climate Action PB will open Fri 31st Jan 2025 with an invitation to submit ideas.
Ideas will be shared at http://www.zerowastenw.org after March 14th 2025 – which may lead to some people deciding to work together on shared proposals.
Support from the ZWNW PB Design Team will be available.
Ideas can be submitted by Fri 14th, March 2025.
An in-person marketplace event will take place in Ethical Weigh on March 29th 2025, when everyone can present their proposals.
Voting will take place at the event and online. All members of ZWNW will be able to vote.
Funding will be distributed as soon as needed.
Six months to implement the idea – until Mon 30th Sept 2025.
